The Week in Review

Dated: 6 Sep 2009

Hey Everyone!

This week went by quickly with all the excitement of the on-coming storm.

4th Monarca  – learned all about animals and their young. We compared how animals and humans are the same when taking care of their young. We made a note of how most animal babies have different names from their parents.

5th Grade - finished reading their story Everybody Wins and completed a classroom task about the story events. We also made a note of the fact that the main character’s  attitude changes during the story making her a dynamic character.

6th Grade – learned new vocabulary words and read the story Jewel in the Sand. We noticed that their were a lot of concepts in this story that related to the non-fiction article Nomads.

7th  Monarcacompleted the selection Chasing Vermeer. We made a list of non-fiction people mentioned in the story.  Most students voiced their dissatisfaction at how the story ended.  Well remember that our book only offers a chapter of the story, but if you want to know what happened you can order the book on amazon.com.

ALL GRADES will have a test on Tuesday September 15.  Skills and concepts to be covered will be discussed in class.

Well, that’s our week in review.  Have a great weekend and remember to answer this week’s writing prompt.

Take care,

Mrs. Fausto

First Week has Gone by…

Hello Everyone!

The first week has gone by and it was great.  We got to know each other and tested our previous knowledge.  Working with fourth graders was challenging but awesome.

Next week all grades will start the first unit in their books. Vocabulary words have already been posted.

Remember to bring in all your required materials everyday. The dictionary we will be using is Diccionario Inglés, no substitutions please.

I’ve noticed that the smaller  students have a hard time carrying their books and materials up to the English classroom. A small backpack just for English can help solve this problem.

I’d also like to remind everyone that some of the songs we sing in class are available on the music page.  Print out the lyrics and have fun practicing pronunciation and entonation.

We will begin with writing prompts on Sunday, August 16.  I can’t wait to read your responses. I also invite parents to join us with answers of their own.

Take Care,

Mrs. Fausto

Welcome to the New School Year!!!

Hello MSEnglish Community!

It’s been a great summer, but I’m sure it will be an even better school year.  I’d like to welcome all new students and the 4th Grade Monarca, who will be joining our community this year.

Please review the materials listed in the syllabus.  They should be brought into class everyday.

Students, remember that the key to making this year exciting is active participation and a positive outlook.  Never say “I don’t know”, instead say “I will try”.

Parents, please keep in mind that your involvement is essential to a successful year.  Surround your child with the English language through music, television, books and any other interests that dynamically engage him/her.

Our team of teacher, student and parent is a formula for success.  If you have any questions you can contact me through the office or at kfausto@acrpr.net.

Thank you and Welcome Back!

Happy Easter!

Hello everyone!

Our Learn Aid tests are on Thursday, March 26.  Don’t Panic! This test is meant to measure how much you’ve improved since last year.  Although it is not graded, I want everyone to do their best. It is extremely important that you READ each question carefully.

Please remember to practice the song Who Am I?  and Praise You in this Storm as we will be singing them for morning prayers.  You can find lyrics and music here.

5th Grade has a reading comprehension test on Wednesday, March 25.

Have a great weekend!
